Shimunenga Ceremony of the ILa speaking people of of Maala in Namwala District has been set to be held on 15th and 16th October 2011.

It is an anual event which takes place in September or October every year and is held at the full moon of October.

The programme will be sas follows:

15th October 2011 Early in the morning people will gather at the shrine of Shimunenga where traditionals will be chanted , women and children will have march past in the traditiona attires and people will be performing traditional dances. On the same day in the afternoon people will be bring their cattle back from cattle camps to the village in preparation for the following day activit.

16th Octorber ceremony continues. In the morning the drum will be sounded and cattle are taken across the river and this is the main event and most interesting and exciting part of the Shimunenga Ceremony. This will be folloed by a demonstration of a mock lion hunt and pelican fishing.

The occation will be with traditional songs and dances  in honour and praise of the Shimunenga ancestral Spirit and it will continue with so many activities .
