Namwala, September 18 -ZANIS- A Namwala man  is battling for his life in the Namwala District Hospital after he was severely bitten by  two dogs in the early hours of today and sustained serious body injuries from the attack.

Both District Commissioner Mr Wilson Siaduka and a cousin to the victim Mr Charles Shingalila confirmed to ZANIS today, that Mr Chidden Muntati in his mid-thirties was attacked by the vicious dogs at around 04:00 as he was going home from a funeral.

Mr Shingalile said his relative sustained multiple body injuries and was found unconscious by Namwala Police Officers around 07:00 hours who later took him to the hospital where he was admitted.

And Senior Medical Officer Dr Alphoso Kambundi who was found treating the victim at in the male ward said the chances of the man surviving were slim if the dogs have not yet been vaccinated against rabies.

And Mr Siaduka called for the immediate cropping of the dogs which he said have so far attacked and bitten three people.

But Chief-elect Mukobela who accompanied the Commissioner to see the victim at the hospital said laxity by the council on the enforcement of by-laws would led to many people bitten by dogs and risk dying as a result of the injuries.

He accused the council of failing to implement some by-laws regarding how people should secure their dogs to prevent people from been bitten.

“This is yet again another example of the laxity on part of our local authority to enforce by-laws regarding the securing of dogs,” Chief-elect Mukobela said.

He further said there was need for dog owners to abide by the set by-laws and ensure that their dogs were always confined.

Meanwhile, District Commissioner Mr Siaduka said the Zambia Wildlife Authority [ZAWA] yesterday cropped one Hippo which has been terrorizing people in Munda Wanga area along the Namwala River.
